Exploring Texas: Activities for Your Next Visit

With my husband’s career, we rarely had to go out of state. Recently, he was asked to come to Texas to manage a new expansion project. We’re doing a lot of traveling between home and Texas. Here in Texas, I have a lot of free time. Thankfully, I have a nice area for morning walks. There is also a private pool, lots of shopping areas, and Pickleball courts to pass my days. Pickleball is a new hobby to us, it’s great exercise and so much fun. Texas is full of places to go and things to do. It’s much different than our small country town, but there’s no place like home, and we’re always glad to get back to our cozy hometown. We usually travel a couple times a year. We’ve never seen much of Texas. While we’re here, we’re taking advantage of the time to explore the state. Here’s a few places we’ve visited.

The San Antonio River Walk

The San Antonio River Walk is a beautiful place to visit. The river runs right through the city, there are nice paved pathways to walk next to the river. The river is surrounded by candy shops and waterfront restaurants with real Mariachi bands. There are also pubs. You can find plenty of places to buy unique gifts for a loved one or yourself. The River Walk is also surrounded by beautiful waterfront hotels. While walking the area you feel as though you’ve entered a whole new village, filled with luxuries and fun. There are also Riverboat cruises! You’ll be riding right through the center of all the action. More info here

The Alamo

The Alamo

The Alamo is walking distance from the San Antonio Riverwalk. You’ll learn plenty of history of The Battle of the Alamo. You’ll walk through the Alamo Church and learn lots of details about the Texas Revolution. There are also outside exhibits, with people dressed in the clothing from the time period. They demonstrate some of the guns, knives, and other weapons that were used at that time. They also explained how the items worked. Some of the weapons were more complicated than the modern weapons we now have available. This was fun to watch and I think all ages would enjoy listening to the men of yesteryear. There’s also a full scale exhibit of how the Alamo looked when it was used. There’s hundred’s of actual artifacts to view at this Historic site. More info here

The Rainforest Pyramid at Moody Gardens

🐝

Located in Galveston, the Rainforest is a must visit! The attraction is a man made rainforest inside of a pyramid. It is home to sloths, birds, bats, fish, and seals. The cutest little monkey also lives there, and came down for a photo. I’m not sure what kind he was but he had the sweetest face. This adventure is great for all ages!

Kemah Boardwalk

Kemah Boardwalk is the perfect place for a date or a family day. There’s restaurants, shops, an Aquarium, and a Stingray Reef where you can touch and feed live stingrays! There’s also carnival games, amusement rides and a splash pad. We enjoyed a waterfront lunch at Landry’s Seafood House, and we enjoyed watching the sailboats sail by in the bay. Our entrees were delicious and came with great service. We enjoyed walking the boardwalk and seeing all the sights. There’s also a train ride. It’s similar to a small train at a zoo. It allows you to see everything the boardwalk has to offer while comfortably seated. There’s always something fun happening at Kemah Boardwalk, wine tastings, concerts, car shows, just to name a few. Gondola Adventures

Gondola Adventures

Located in Irving, Texas, the gondola cruise with Gondola Adventures is a must for a romantic adventure! I’d say it’s one of my most favorite things we’ve ever done. We enjoyed refreshments on the cruise. It included a variety of delicious chocolates. For a real authentic touch, we had a singing Gondolier! There’s also breakfast or dinner cruise options! You can find more info on their website
