Exploring Texas Hill Country: Anniversary Adventures

Texas Hill Country

Since we’re still in Texas for my husband’s job, we’re taking advantage of the time to explore the state. This past week was our 34th Wedding Anniversary. We decided to go deeper into Texas, and explore the Texas Hill Country. We visited Luckenbach, Fredericksburg, Blanco, Wimberley, Kerrville, and the Llano areas. We love exploring new places, and in Texas there’s plenty to see! We hiked, sipped, and shopped. It was a fun filled week full of new adventures! Come along with me as I share a few! 🐝

Where we stayed

Firefly Resort

We took the RV on this trip, and we stayed at Firefly RV Resort. This luxury resort is packed with amenities and scenic views. It also has a 2 tier pool, a playground for the kids, and a Private Chef Experience. Additionally, they offer a Massage Therapist, live music, and food vendors on weekends. The RV spots are also very spacious. Don’t have an RV? That’s OK, Firefly still has you covered. They have tiny homes available. The tiny homes are very nice and looked brand new. I was very impressed with this resort!

Where we went

Signor Vineyards

Fredericksburg is known for its wineries, in fact there’s more than 75 wineries and tasting rooms to choose from. We aren’t really drinkers, but as the saying goes “When in Rome” right? We visited a few wineries on this trip, and each one has its own unique style. My favorite was Signor Vineyards. This vineyard is very elegant with an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. It’s named as the most beautiful vineyard in Fredericksburg, and it definitely lives up to the hype. The service was great, and the wine was very good too! I’ve never had a red wine that I’ve liked until this tasting, or maybe I was a bit buzzed 🐝 by the time the red was served. Either way it was an excellent experience and a very romantic start to our Anniversary week ❤. This winery is very popular, and reservations are encouraged. Check the website for more info.

Grapetown Vineyard

Grapetown Vineyards offers a pretty scenery with a relaxed atmosphere. They have a Safari Wine Tour, Animal Experiences, and a Grape Stomp! I really wanted to do the stomp, but our Safari Tour overlapped the time slot. I do plan to do a stomp at sometime in the future. Grape stomping makes me think of that “I Love Lucy” episode. 😄🍇 It just seems like a lot of fun lol. We tried 4 four wines here with our tasting experience. Our server was very joyful, knowledgeable and pleasant. She really was a delight! We also enjoyed a delicious fruit and cheese plate. I found the cheese plate reasonably priced. Plates and charcuterie boards do get pricey at some vineyards. After our tasting we did the Safari Tour, and it was so fun! I was surprised that we actually got to go in some of the animal enclosures. We were allowed to hand feed some of the sweetest little animals. The animals were excited yet gentle while eating straight from our hands. There were llamas, a mini cow, fat piggies, goats, deer, and sheep! We rode a tram through the area where the larger animals were kept. We saw bison, camels, emus, alpacas, bulls, and even fed some zebras! Although this is a winery, wine tasting isn’t required for a visit. I saw lots of families enjoying the animal parts of the vineyard. We visited this vineyard on a Saturday, and it was very busy. If you’re visiting on a weekend it may be best to reserve your animal adventure online. Visit the website for more info.

Where we hiked

Jacob’s Well

We love to find new places to explore! Texas Hill County offers lots of outdoor hiking opportunities. Jacob’s Well has been on our visit list for a while. The well is a beautiful natural Artesian Spring. The water is clear with a bluish green tint. It’s so clear that you can actually see the fish swimming. When there’s been lots of rain, and the well overflows, people have been known to swim at Jacob’s Well. I personally would NOT swim there! We visited the well to enjoy the spectacular view ONLY! You can find lots of videos on YouTube of swimmers at the well. Some of the braver ones jump in from the rocks above. There’s also videos about the lost divers that never came back up! 😳 Another reason to STAY OUT right?! I do NOT recommend getting in the well.

Note: Jacob’s Well is now closed to swimming.

Where we ate

The best breakfast spot in Fredericksburg!

The Old German Bakery

The Old German Bakery was the best place to eat in Fredericksburg in our opinion. They offer a full breakfast menu, including some German style dishes. I’ve discovered that German pancakes are delicious! If you’re like me and not familiar with German pancakes, they’re topped with fresh squeezed lemon juice and powdered sugar. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. It gives lemon meringue pie! Tangy and sweet! I love them and I will try to recreate them at home. They also offer homemade pastries. Let’s just say I tried a fair amount of them, and they were all delicious! 😋

Look at those pastries! That Cherry Cream Cheese one…. Chef’s kiss!

We made some other stops in the Texas Hill Country also, I’ll write about those soon, including our visit to the famous Luckenbach, Texas!

As always, if you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comment section below! If you’ve already been to Fredericksburg, leave a comment on your favorite spots to visit. I’d love to hear from you!
